 Prof. Carlo B. Bifulco is currently the Medical Director of Oncological Molecular Pathology and Pathology Informatics at the Providence Oregon Regional Laboratory and the Director of Translational Molecular Pathology at the Earle A. Chiles Research Institute. His current translational research focuses on characterizing the tumor immune microenvironment through immunohistochemistry and image analysis, and on the integration of genomics with immunotherapies.
He is the key architect of Prov-GigaPath (Nature, 2024) and GigaTIME (Cell, 2026): the first open-source foundation model for whole-slide pathology, developed by Providence together with Microsoft Research. His team is redefining the state of the art in AI applications to large-scale biomedical data, helping drive a once-in-a-generation transformation of pathology. Prof. Bifulco is one of the few people leading this shift from the inside, bridging the clinic, the laboratory, and frontier AI research. This seminar offers a rare opportunity to hear, first-hand, how foundation models trained on a billion histology images are reshaping cancer diagnostics, biomarker discovery, and the design of immunotherapies.
